The Fruits of Waiting on God
Steve Porter, Rochester, NY

"For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside Thee, what He hath prepared for him that waiteth for Him." (Isaiah 64:4 KJV)

"For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like You, who works for those who wait for Him!" (Isaiah 64:4 NLT)

Waiting in Faith

When we choose to wait on the Lord, He begins working in us to produce fruit greater than we could ever expect or understand. It is through faithful expectancy that our hearts open up in anticipation of what God has prepared for us—even if it's beyond the realm of our capacity. Isaiah 64:4 says that when we choose to commit ourselves to waiting on God, instead of yielding to our fleshly desires, we shouldn't be surprised at the miraculous outpouring that follows. Waiting in faith, with confidence and expectation for God to work, is the most powerful thing we can do. Those who choose to leave fear and struggle behind them and just choose to trust that God has something great in store for them will ultimately be blessed.

When we take those precious, still moments in the presence of God, something incredible begins to happen. We can trust that there is a future hope being made available to us as we set aside all strain and focus on the Lord. As we wait—trusting God with confidence and expectation—we open ourselves up to new possibilities that we would have otherwise never known. The Bible reminds us of what God has prepared for those who wait for Him. It is truly remarkable how faithfully God responds to our waiting! "...blessed are all they that wait for Him" (Isaiah 30:18 KJV).

Blessed Beyond Measure

When we wait for God, He works on our behalf in extraordinary and mysterious ways. It's His way of taking us deeper into the knowledge of Him and His Spirit. We may never understand just how much God is doing as we wait, but through faith we can trust that His timing is perfect and that something beautiful awaits us once the waiting has ended.

Isaiah 30:18 reminds us to be grateful for this incredible opportunity to pause and reconnect to God—even when the present feels uncertain or the future unknown. Indeed, those who wait on Him will be blessed beyond measure!

When the Lord awakens us, it is a beautiful invitation to enter His inner chambers and draw near to Him. We can do this by simply taking moments of stillness. This attitude of quiet adoration, worship, and admiration will draw us closer to God's heart. We have been promised that those who wait for the Lord—even in their silent moments—will receive Him. Through our times of beholding Him in quiet waiting, we can open our hearts more fully to the Lord so that He can increase His beloved presence.

Finding Fruit That Remains

The words of Psalms 62:1 remind us that we should take every opportunity to pause and allow God's Spirit to flow in us, for as David said, "...Thou hast visited me in the night..." (Psalm 17:3). The Lord is eagerly anticipating a chance to be generous and kind. All who patiently await His presence will find the fruit that remains!

In conclusion, the fruit that comes from waiting on God is unmatched. We find that while we wait in His presence, we can discover Jesus—the greatest treasure. By stepping away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives and taking time to just be still and present, we open ourselves up to wholly new revelations and answers to prayers. We experience a deeper level of intimacy and connection to His Spirit, something that can never be replaced by anything else in the world.

Remember that waiting on God is not doing nothing; it is stepping away from activity of our everyday lives and taking time to just be still and present with the Lord with an open heart. If we are willing to quiet ourselves and wait, venturing into His arms to find out what gifts lie hidden, it will be an opportunity too sweet not to grasp!
