Generations Are Waiting to Be Fathered and Mothered

Recently, I had a vivid dream. I was looking forward, building different structures with my hands. I was very focused and determined.

All of a sudden, the Lord said, "Look back!"

When I looked back, I saw a mass group of younger people.

I asked the Lord, "Who are these people?"

He replied, "These are generations who are waiting to be fathered and mothered. Many don't see them because their eyes are so focused on their personal vision. I'm looking for those who won't only know how to raise a ministry, but will know how to raise sons and daughters."

Encountering the God of Generations – From Lack to Legacy

There is a wave of discipleship that is going to sweep the Church. I saw barriers of division between generations being broken. It won't only be a wave of training and equipping, but also of fathering and mothering. We are about to encounter the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We are about to encounter the "God of generations." He wants to shift us from lack to legacy. He is shifting us from a "ministry mentality" to a "legacy mentality." (Photo via Unsplash)

The Prophet Elijah

Let's take a look at Elijah's life.

"...Elijah said to Elisha, 'Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?'

"Elisha said, 'Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.'

"So he said, 'You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall be not so.' Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into Heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, 'My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!' So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his clothes and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan."(2 Kings 2:9-13)

Elijah was a fascinating prophet. By many, he is known as the "lone prophet" because of what he said while sitting under the broom tree.

"And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, 'What are you doing here, Elijah?' So he said, 'I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.'" (1 Kings 19:9-10)

Passing the Test of Family

In his lifetime, Elijah accomplished tremendous feats against the kingdom of darkness; however, his calling wasn't only to be a prophet. It was also to be a father. He proved his success as a prophet when he called fire down from Heaven and slayed the four hundred and fifty false prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18). He ultimately proved faithful in his calling as a father when his spiritual son didn't divert his eyes as he ascended.

As Elijah ascended, Elisha didn't call out, saying, "My mentor, my mentor!" He didn't call out, saying, "Prophet, prophet!" He said, "My father, my father!" These words reveal so much. They reveal that Elijah, the lone prophet, passed the test of "family." Because of this, Elijah had authority to see what he carried multiply into the generation who would come after him – anointing and impact multiplied in the context of community and family. Encountering the Great Carpenter

Throughout Church history, we have encountered different facets of Jesus. We encountered Jesus as "Healer" during the voice of healing movement. We experienced Him as "Prophet" when we witnessed a restoration of the prophetic ministry in the 1980s. Now we are in a time where we are about to encounter Jesus as the "Great Carpenter."

I recently had a vision where I saw Jesus the Carpenter. He was working with wood, using all sorts of tools. While He worked, He had a beaming smile on His face as He diligently built.

I asked Him, "What are You building?"

He replied, "I'm building tables. In this upcoming season, 'family' is a prominent key for revival and the transformation of nations. Discipleship won't only happen in buildings, but in homes. People won't only be trained but will also be fathered and mothered. Miracles, deliverances, and demonstrations of My presence will happen in community and family. Tables are the new altars."
