TOPIC: SAY GOODBYE TO CAPTIVITY!

PASSOVER INTO RESURRECTION POWER!

Passover is a celebration of REDEMPTION and RELEASE FROM CAPTIVITY

The message of Passover is that we have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb out of the hand of the enemy!

We have been set free from Satan’s captivity to move forward with God & receive His promise.

PASSOVER ISN’T JUST FOR JEWS!

Jesus & the disciples all celebrated Passover!

Passover was the most important yearly celebration in the early church!

If you have been redeemed, and God has set you free from bondage to the devil. PASSOVER IS FOR YOU!

(Pg2)

God doesn’t just want us to just CELEBRATE Passover…

He wants us to EXPERIENCE PASSOVER.

He wants us to fully receive redemption & PASS OVER from captivity to freedom!

HOW DO WE EXPERIENCE PASSOVER?

Let’s review a little of the Passover story…

(Pg3)

Israel was living in terrible oppression in Egypt!

They were being held captive by a cruel tyrant named Pharoah.

They were being worked to death!

Their children were being murdered!

Their situation seemed hopeless!

They could not see a way out!

(Pg4)

But then God sent Moses…

He began telling them of the good things God had for them! He told them about the Promised Land!

IT SEEMED TO GOOD TO BE TRUE… BUT GOD HAD A WAY TO GET THEM THERE!

And the starting point was PASSOVER!

(Pg5)

SOME OF YOU ARE BEING HELD CAPTIVE BY A CRUEL TYRANT NAMED SATAN.

You find yourself alone, in need, oppressed by sickness and depression.

Satan is holding you in bondage, and you can’t see any way out!

(Pg6)

God has a future & a hope for YOU!

It’s like your own personal promised land!

God has given you incredible promises!

7,000 promised in the Bible!

Joy – Fulfillment – Provision – Healing

Those are the things God wants for us, but many of us never experience them!

Many Christians live under the oppression of the enemy instead of the abundant blessing of their loving Father!

But PASSOVER is the key to FREEDOM

(Pg7)

THE PASSOVER STORY GIVES US 3 STEPS TO FREEDOM.

FIRST God showed Israel that He is stronger than all of the gods of Egypt.

He did that through a series of plagues! Each plague was a confrontation with the demonic spirits the Egyptians worshipped!

(Pg8)

1. Nile River turns into blood. (Ex 7:14-24)

The Nile was important to the Egyptians!

They depended on the Nile for life!

They had 2 gods to guard it! One’s name is HAPI. The other one’s name is KHNUM.

Moses said: “Let My people GO! Or I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water. But Pharaoh refused!

(Pg9)

While Hapi and Khnum stood by helplessly, the Nile filled with blood! Everything died!

The gods of Egypt had no power to help!

(Pg10)

2. Frogs (Ex. 7:25-29, 8:1-11)

Frogs were sacred in Egypt!

They had a grog goddess: HEKET – Goddess of Fertility, Procreation, Renewal

God said: “Let my people go, so they may worship Me. Or I will PLAGUE your country with frogs. But Pharaoh refused!

(Pg11)

So FROGS covered the land!

Their frog goddess could not help!

(Pg12)

3. Stinging gnats (Ex 8:12-15)

They came up out of the soil & were EVERYWHERE!

And they left a painful sting that often got infected.

(Pg13)

Egypt had a god to guard the soil.

His name was Geb!

BUT GEB HAD NO POWER TO STIP THE GNATS!

Yet Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened.

(Pg14)

4. Files (Ex 8:16-28)

“The Lord said: Let my people go, or I will send swarms of flies on you.

The Egyptians had a god in charge of insects.

HIS NAME WAS KHEPRI. (a dung beetle for a head)

(Pg15)

Suddenly, flies were everywhere!

KHEPRI HAD NO POWER TO STOP THEM!

Pharaoh promised to let the Jews go, but when the plague was gone, Pharaoh “hardened his heart” again.

(Pg16)

Two of the most powerful Egyptian gods were Hathor and Apis!

HATHOR was the Goddess of Love and Protection. Often pictured as a cow.

Apis  - the god of fertility… Usually pictured as a bull or calf.

(Pg17)

So the fifth plague was directed against the Egyptians’ livestock.

A disease swept the land & cattle dies!(Ex 9:1-7)

THE EGUPTIANS SAW THAT THEIR CATTLE-GODS WERE POWERLESS!

(Pg18)

One by one God confronted the demonic gods of Egypt and demonstrated His power over them.

God wanted Israel to know that they didn’t have to fear the demonic powers of Egypt.

He also wanted Israel to never be tempted to worship the gods of Egypt! Their God was greater!

(Pg19)

Unfortunately, Israel didn’t learn the lesson!

When they got to Mount Sinai, the first thing they did was makes a GOLDEN CALF!

An idol of the Egyptian god Apis!

They turned back to the gods of Egypt!

(Pg20)

But the first step in obtaining freedom was a demonstration of God’s POWER!

THAT”S THE SAME THING JESUS DID!

Before He went to the cross to be sacrificed as our Passover Lamb, He spend 3 years confronting Satan.

He came “to destroy the works of the evil one”. He healed the sick, raised the dead, freed hose oppressed by the enemy, He showed that he had power to overcome all the works of darkness.

(Pg21)

God wants you to know his POWER!

He wants you to know that when you walk with Him, you don’t have to fear the devil!

You don’t have to be tempted to worship any other god!

You don’t need to trust the things the world places its trust in!

YOUR GOD IS BIG ENOUGH TO WATCH OUT FOR YOU!

(Pg22)

THE FIRST STEP IN ESCAPING BONDAGE WAS TO SEE THE POWER OF GOD.

THE SECOND STEP WAS REDEMPTIN BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB.

That’s the heart of Passover. You can never be free from bondage until you’ve been redeemed.

What is redemption?

(Pg23)

Redemption means being purchased out of the hand of the enemy.

It’s the giving of another life in exchange for yours!

Satan feels he has a right to oppress you. Sin has put you under a curse!

But Redemption means another life was given so you could be set free!

That’s why Passover is all about JESUS!

(Pg24)

For the Jews…Passover was a celebration of God’s power in setting them free from slavery in Egypt!

They had been in bondage, under bitter oppression!

They cried out to God… He delivered them!

But their deliverance didn’t come through a heroic deed or a mighty army.

(Pg25)

Their deliverance came though the smallest, weakest, most innocent, thing imaginable… a pure, spotless LAMB.

(Pg26)

When the BLOOD of the lamb was placed on the doorpost…

God accepted the life of that lamb in place of Israel’s firstborn.

(Pg27)

The central focus of Passover was the LAMB.

But even more central was the BLOOD of the lamb! A cute lamb tied up by the doorpost would not have kept death away!

The lamb had to be sacrificed and its blood poured out!

(Pg28)

Passover is Redemption by the blood of a pure spotless lamb!

By the blood of the lamb, Israel was REDEEMED!

The judgment of God was turned away.

The gods of Egypt were judged, their power broken!

Israel was released from oppression & bondage.

They were set free to enter God’s promise!

(Pg29)

THAT’S WHY PASSOVER IS ALSO IMPORTANT FOR CHRISTIANS!

Passover is really a celebration of JESUS!

(Pg30)

NT tells us Jesus IS the Passover Lamb!

When John INTRODUCED Jesus He said, “Behold the LAMB!”

Paul said: Christ, our PASSOVER LAMB has been slain!

In Rev. 4-5, all heaven worships Jesus as the LAMB that was slain!

He shed His blood to redeem us from the enemy!

God accepted His life as a substitute for your!

PASSOVER is all about Jesus!

(Pg31)

That’s why GOD PLANNED for Jesus to die AT PASSOVER!

God could have had Jesus die any time of year!

But He gave His only Son to suffer and die at Passover because God wanted us to know that Jesus IS the perfect PASSOVER LAMB!

God went to great lengths to CONNENT the sacrifice of Jesus to PASSOVER.

Compare the timetable of Jesus’ crucifixion with the Passover celebration…

(Pg32)

The Lamb Selected

Ex 12 instructs that the Passover lamb be chosen on 10th day of 1st month.

(By the time of Jesus, only lambs from Bethlehem were considered to be eligible to serve as Passover lambs!)

The chosen lamb was brought into the city from the east (down the Mount of Olives) & entered through the sheep gate.

(Pg33)

The Lamb Selected

On the 10th day of 1st month, Jesus came down the Mount of Olives and entered Jerusalem through the sheep gate. (His “triumphal entry”)

People waved palm branches & shouted “Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord! Save us, son of David!”

By mass acclamation He is designated Israel’s Messiah!

The crowds had chosen their Passover Lamb!

(Pg34)

The Lamb Examined

The Torah instructed that once the lamb was chosen, it had to be carefully examined for blemishes. Only a perfect spotless & unblemished lamb would suffice for the Passover.

(Pg35)

The Lamb Examined

Jesus goes to the Temple to teach. While there, he is approached by the Pharisees, Sadducees, Herodians and the Teachers of the Law.

Each group poses difficult questions, trying to trap him. Essentially, they are looking for any blemish which might disqualify him as Messiah.

But no one can find fault with him. He is without blemish.

(Pg36)

The Leaven Cast Out

Torah instructs that before the feast, all leaven (impurity) must be cast out of every Israelite home. Each mother takes a candle & searches…

Every observant family carefully cleans their house. Every trace of impurity is removed.

(Pg37)

The Leaven Cast Out

During this time, Jesus entered the Temple & casts out the moneychangers.

He is following the biblical instruction to prepare for Passover by cleansing His Father’s house.

(Pg38)

The Lamb Taken to the Altar

On the morning of the 14th day of the 1st month, when all was set in order, the lamb is led out to the altar.

At 9AM that morning, the lamb is bound to the altar and put on public display!

(Pg39)

The Lamb Taken to the Altar

On the morning of the 14th day of the 1st month, when all has been fulfilled, Jesus was let out to Calvary.

At 9AM that morning, as the lamb was being bound to the altar… Jesus was nailed to the cross and put on public display at Calvary!

(Pg40)

The Lamb Slain

At exactly 3 p.m. the high priest ascends the altar.

As another priest blows a shofar on the temple wall, he cuts the throat of the sacrificial Lamb, and declares, “IT IS FINISHED”.

(Pg41)

The Lamb Slain

At 3 p.m. on that high holy day, at the moment the lamb was killed, Jesus cried with a loud voice, “IT IS HINISHED.” and gave up His Spirit.

In Greek, “it is finished” is Telelistai! It means, “The debt has been paid in full!”

No wonder John introduces Jesus by saying, “BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD!”

Paul writes “Christ, OUR PASSOVER LAMB, has been slain! Therefore let us celebrate the feast!”

(Pg42)

Passover is ALL About JESUS

He came as the LAMB of God!

His blood redeems US.

By His blood, Judgment has been turned away!

The power of Satan broken! We are release from bondage and oppression.

We are set free to enter into God’s Promise!

EVERYTHING IN PASSOVER IS A PICTURE OF JESUS!

(Pg43)

Even the traditional Jewish Passover celebration contains an amazing picture of Jesus!

At the beginning of every Jewish Passover celebration, the father of the house performs a ceremony called “Hiding the Afikomen!”

He has a cloth bag called an afikomen bag … Its also called a “UNITY.” In that unity bag are THREE POCKETS. Before the feast he put 3 sheets of unleavened bread in the unity bag… one in each pocket.

(Pg44)

At the beginning of the meal, the father takes the middle piece of matzo out of the bag.

This is the middle piece of the three in the unity,

Called the AFIKOMEN.

Not Hebrew! Greek!

Afikomenos “He who is coming!”

It is (prepared in a way of it is) pierced, striped, and bruised.

(Pg45)

The father takes this bruised, striped pierced, AFIKOMEN…

…the middle one of the 3 in the unity…

And he BREAKS it!

He carefully wraps it in a white linen napkin…

And HIDES it until later in the Passover meal!

At a later point…

Children are told to search for the Afikomen and the one who finds it gets a prize!

(Pg46)

WHEN THE AFIKOMEN IS FOUND, IT IS UNWRAPPED & HELD UP FOR ALL TO SEE!

Anybody NOT see a picture of Jesus in that?

When the afikomen was broken, it symbolized Jesus’ DEATH.

When it was wrapped in linen, it pictured the wrapping of His body in linen after His death, When the wrapped afikomen was hidden from sight, it symbolized His burial.

Finally, it is unwrapped and held up for all to see.

This symbolizes the RESURRECTION of Jesus!

That’s the whole Gospel story in the middle of Jewish Passover Celebration!

(Pg47)

Paul wrote: “Christ, OUR Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore LET US celebrate the feast…” (1Cor 5:7-8)

How do you celebrate Passover?

Passover is designed to be celebrated in the home, with friends & family gathered at a meal. (Messianic Church & Time to Prosper give instructions.)

Passover is the meal we read about in the gospels when the disciples gathered with Jesus in the upper room, on the night before His crucifixion!

“I’ve eagerly desired to eat this Passover meal with you!”

(He still desires to share Passover with His people!)

(Pg48)

Passover is a memorial meal.

Every element is designed to recreate events and emotions of the original Passover night.

Passover is designed to take us back in time to RELIVE God’s Miracle!

(Pg49)

A MEMORIAL MEAL

Some elements of the Passover meal designed to remind Israel of the bitterness of oppression

Roasted Egg – “Symbol of Mourning”

Haroset (apples & cinnamon) – “mortar or clay”

Maror (bitter herbs) – “bitterness of slavery”

Chazeret (Bitter Vegetable) (Num 9:11)

Karpas (parsley) – “taste the salty tears”

You begin by tasting the bitterness of oppression. It reminds us of the tears and sorrow Satan brings!

(Pg50)

A MEMORIAL MEAL

God wants us to recall the bitterness of oppression.

But He also wants to remind us of HOW He set us free!

LAMB (Jews eat Chicken, & use lamb bone) – “The Lamb that was Sacrificed.”

There are 2 elements that picture REDEMPTION.

(Pg51)

A MEMORIAL MEAL

The first is the AFIKOMEN!

Bread made without leaven (no impurity).

The afikomen pictures the purity of the spotless lamb that purchased their freedom from Egypt.

The second element is a cup of red wine.

Picturing the blood on the doorposts!

(Pg52)

So Passover brings to mind the cruelty & pain of slavery in Egypt!

We Taste the Bitterness of Oppression. But then we remember…

(Pg53)

GOD BROUGHT DELIVERANCE BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB

(Pg54)

It’s a very special thing to celebrate a Passover Seder with all elements!

But in the New Covenant, only two elements are really essential!

The Afikomen… and the cup!

At His last Passover meal with the disciples, Jesus took those elements and explained their meaning.

The Afikomen(unleavened bread)represents His body, pure & undefiled, yet striped & pierced for our healing.

The cup represents His blood, shed for our redemption.

(Pg55)

Jesus died as a Passover Lamb to REDEEM YOU!

He shed His blood for you! He gave His life in exchange for yours! He wants you to RECEIVE His Redemption by faith!

“Thank You, Jesus, that YOU DIED FOR ME!”

BELIEVE IT! STAND ON IT! CONFESS IT!

“Thank You that You DIED to SET ME FREE!”

REFUSE TO LIVE IN BONDAGE!

(Pg56)

THE BLOOD OF YOUR PASSOVER LAMB(Jesus) IS YOUR GREATEST WEAPON AGAINST THE ENEMY!

Derek Prince: greatest confession for deliverance is :”I have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, out of the hand of the enemy!”

That’s the whole message of Passover!

When Satan tries to oppress you, tell him, “NO! I’ve been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb!” Command the devil to leave!

(Pg57)

THE FIRST STEP IN ESCAPING BONDAGE WAS TO SEE THE POWER OF GOD.

THE SECOND STEP WAS REDEMPTION!

But to be fully released to move into their destiny, one more thing was necessary.

THE WIND OF GOD HAD TO BLOW!

(Pg58)

God had judged the gods of Egypt!

Israel was redeemed by the blood of the Lamb!

The door had opened for them to move toward their promised destiny.

But when they tried to move forward…

(Pg60)

THEIR PATH LED TO A DEAD-END AT THE RED SEA! THEIR WAY WAS BLOCKED!

They had the armies of Egypt behind them and the Red Sea in front of them…

They immediately began to feel sorry for themselves!

(Pg61)

They began to murmur and complain against God and against Moses!

They told Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?”(Ex 14)

WE DO THE SAME THING!

When our path is blocked, and there is no way to move forward! What do we do?

MURMUR AND COMPLAIN!

But God gave Moses a word for the people…

(Pg62)

Ex 14:13-14 – “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today… The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

God was saying, “You don’t have the power to handle this, but I do!”

God had a secret weapon.

THE WIND

TH WIND OF GOD!

(Pg63)

EX 14:21-22: Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong WIND and turned it into dry land The waters were divided and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

WHEN THEIR WAY WAS BLOCKED, GOD’S SOLUTION WS TO SENT THE WIND!

When you don’t have the strength to move forward call on the WIND.

That’s a good word for this year!

(Pg64)

Hebrew letter for this year is the letter HEI!

Hei was originally a picture of a WINDOW LATTICE.

A window lattice is made up of lots of little letter Heis!

(Pg65)

Hebrew letter for this year is the letter HEI!

HEI was the sound the WIND makes blowing through a WINDOW LATTICE.

(Pg66)

Hebrew letter for this year is the letter HEI!

Hei means Wind, Sound, Word, Breath, Spirit, Revelation.

The year of Hei is the year of the WIND!

It’s the year for THE WIND OF GOD!

What is the Wind of God?

(Pg67)

Hebrews lived most of their lives outdoors.

In the wilderness, and in the promised land, they were surrounded by a vase expanse of open space.

It gave them a picture of what God is like.

Creation is REVELATION of God!

People who spend lives in the open often have a great awareness of God – David, Moses, Abraham

“Outdoors has never been the friend of atheism.”

(Pg68)

THE JEWS COULD LOOK INTO THE HEAVENS & SEE A DISPLAY OF GOD’S GLORY.

(Pg69)

They looked around on the earth & saw the beauty of His handiwork!

THE VASTNESS OF CREATION WAS ALL AROUND THEM!

(Pg70)

And through it all was the WIND!

It blew around their tents, they could feel it on their faces, they could see it affecting and moving the world around them…

Sometimes it was gentle, barely discernable.

(Pg71)

At other times the wind was powerful, even frightening. It could be destructive!

Yet this powerful element of creation was INVISIBLE! They could not see it!

So the WIND became the symbol of the SPIRIT OF GOD!

(Pg72)

The Hebrew word for WIND is Ruach.

It means WIND or BREATH.

But it’s also the Hebrew word for SPIRIT.

(Pg73)

You can HEAR the WIND in God’s Name!

The covenant name for God in Hebrew is YAHWEH.

Listen to the sound of God’s name:

Y a h w e h

a “breathy” kind of word – you hear the wind in it … the Hebrews understood God!

We say “GOD”. They say Yahweh.

We say “SPIRIT”, they said Ruach.

They knew the wind was a PICTURE of the Holy Spirit!

(Pg74)

Understanding the Wind teaches us about God’s Spirit!

(Pg75)

Wind is INVISIBLE!

You can’t see it…

Yet is has GREAT POWER!

That’s the Holy Spirit!

“You shall receive POWER when the Holy Spirit (the invisible WIND of God) has come upon you!”

(Pg76)

We can greatly benefit from the power of the wind.

We benefit even more when we receive power from the Spirit!

(Pg77)

The wind causes MOTION

The Spirit of God moves and directs His people, as He did with Elijah & Philip!

(Pg78)

The wind can move you forward!

It can take you to a new place.

(Pg79)

But the wind can’t be controlled!

You can’t make it do what you want.

“The Wind blows where it wills; and you hear its sound, yet you don’t know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”(Jn 3:8)

“Wild Goose” – don’t know where He will go!

If you are flowing in the Spirit… you can’t control your destination!

(Pg80)

Wind is INVISIBLE, yet TANGIBLE!

You can feel the wind around you!

The wind can be pleasant & fun.

When the Spirit comes there is joy and laughter and refreshing!

(Pg81)

But the wind can also overpower us!

Some don’t like it when the Spirit makes them lose control!

(Pg82)

The wind can also be FRIGHTENING

When you see the Spirit move, you can’t predict what will happen!

(Pg83)

When the Wind comes…

It can destroy our old structures.

(Pg84)

WIND BRINGS NEW BEGINNINGS!

People talk about “the winds of change”.

When the Holy Spirit comes and revival breaks loose, everything changes!

Genesis 1:2, “The earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the RUACH of God (Spirit, Wind) moved upon the face of the waters.”

The Wind of God was brooding like a hen over the ruined world…

So at a Word from God, life could come!

(Pg85)

THE WIND OF GOD BRINGS LIFE!

And the LORD formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the BEATH (the WIND or the SPIRIT) of life; and man became a living soul.(Gen. 2:7, KJV)

The Spirit is the source of LIFE!

Those who reject the Spirit reject LIFE!

(Pg86)

THE WIND BRINGS THE NEW!

In Acts 2 the WIND OF GOD blows and the CHURCH is borm.

The WIND OF GOD blows into devastated and hopeless lives to bring salvation and transformation!

And the WIND OF GOD has the power to open the path to your destiny.

IT CAN MAKE A WAY WHEN THERE IS NO WAY!

(Pg87)

When Moses raised his staff over the sea

The WIND OF GOD was released!

THE SEA PARTED and Israel walked through on dry land!

(Pg88)

That WIND opened a WINDOW OF ESCAPE for the people!

It opened the path to their future!

It created a portal of blessing for all who would pass through by faith!

(Pg89)

IF YOU KNOW THE GOD OF ALL POWER…

AND YOU KNOW YOU ARE REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB…

BUT YOUR WAY SEEMS BLOCKED & YOU ARE NOT MAKING PROGRESS…

CALL ON THE WIND!

(Pg90)

RECEIVE A FRESH WIND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TODAY!

LET THE WIND OF GOD OPEN THE PATH TO YOUR DESTINY!
